PRESS RELEASE
Wednesday 18 August 2004
Civil rights campaigners from the group Fathers 4 Justice today targeted Greene and Greene Solicitors in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
Around 10 demonstrators dressed in decontamination suits and carrying air horns and loud hailers arrived at the office in Guildhall Street to present Greene and Greene with the “Pied Piper Golden Flute Award for Achievements in State Sponsored Kidnap”.
The group say that this is in recognition of the fact that Greene and Greene encourage fathers to have contact with their children in Government sponsored Contact Centres thus luring children away from a family home.
The group presented Greene and Greene with a Certificate and a Golden Flute Award The F4J East Anglia Co-ordinator, John Levis, said “It is totally unacceptable that perfectly decent fathers are forced to see their children in Contact Centres. We know of at least one case where Greene and Greene took it upon themselves to book a place in a contact centre for a father without waiting for the court. Fathers who are fighting to see their children are in a vulnerable position and solicitors take advantage of this by saying in effect ‘you must go to the Contact Centre or you will not see your children’”.
Fathers 4 Justice also used the day to highlight the fact that the Government recently said it would be investing £3.5 million in creating more Contact Centres thus making the problem worse.
The group, who’s previous stunts include putting Batman and Robin on top of the Royal Courts of Justice in London, storming York Minster and the ‘Funpowder Plot’ where condoms full of purple powder were thrown at Tony Blair in the House of Commons say that this is the first of a number of actions planned for the East Anglia region.
