Today we had the second episode of man-hater Annie Clayton training husbands as if they were dogs on the BBC2’s sexist insulting “Bring You Husband to Heel”. Husband David spends all his time on the computer when at home. The computer is in the kitchen and he doesn’t want any noise around him. This includes washing up. He also lets meals get cold when he’s at the computer. Enter man-hater Annie Clayton to help wife Michelle to bring David “to heel”. Lot of comparisons of men and dogs, supposedly funny. David is, of course, lied to about what the programme is about. Michelle it seems nags and complains about his computer usage. David simply ignores her. Michelle also says “When David asks me to do something and he doesn't ask in a particularly nice then I don't respond”. Annie suggests a subtle system of rewarding him for “good behaviour”. We see Michelle appealing to David for help and gradually getting it.
Of course, no-one sees David’s behaviour as a problem with the relationship but simply as a problem with David. Michelle’s nagging and complaining do not get her what she wants but she initially still tries to continue with them. How long she’s been doing this we don’t know. The fact that computer’s are part of David’s jobs (and he’s possibly self-employed) are ignored. When Michelle tries persuading David to help it may be the first time he has truly been talked to in years.
Man-hater Annie Clayton finishes with one down 10million husbands to go. Clearly she and the BBC are well suited. Some have written to the BBC and got bland answers like “we do programmes for all tastes” back. So “Bring our Wife to Heel” soon? No, of course not. The man-haters in the BBC, like Annie Clayton, don’t want it.
